It's Maisy's tenth birthday and it was a great day for her. First, this morning she was treated to snuggle time with Joseph and mommy ( me). Then she got to have her Cesar dog food in bed. After the humans were done with breakfast she shared mommy's french fries . This afternoon she got a half of a pumpkin cupcake with light frosting and sprinkles. For dinner she had Cesar dog food and then got to eat half a Mc Donald's plain hamburger and some french fries. All in all I say a pretty good birthday for the bean.
Did you know that there is a special girl dog waiting for a forever home in Seal Beach, Ca. her name is Hope and she is beautiful. Her story started out kind of rocky as most abandoned/ abused dog's do, but here is the difference( a kind soul? ) she was brought to the Seal Beach Animal Care Center weighing in at 3 measly pounds and they took her to the vet who instead of euthanizing her decided to try and save her and guess what the little lady is up for adoption thanks to caring people who donated money and time to save her. Here is a link to the story: http://www.ocregister.com/articles/faith-537356-shelter-jane.html.
Hello again yes I know it is no longer Maisy's birthday but she did enjoy all the food she got , as you all may or may not know I spend a rather large part of my day looking at Yahoo news stories and playing on the internet. I came across a very interesting story about a little girl who lost her Mr. Rabbit , the rabbit you see is a stuffed animal who has been with the little girl ( Ruby) since she born and he is missing somewhere in jolly old London. While many of us have had our Mr. Rabbit, Angel, Poggles, and other treasured stuffed animals, I cannot imagine losing my Angel at three years old which is how old Ruby is . Now her mother has posted a missing Mr. Rabbit on her Facebook page. I sincerely hope that Mr. Rabbit is found soon. I read some of the comments at the end of the article and while most were along the lines of encouragement, advice , and even well wishes there were some who were downright nasty What possess a person to be nasty ? Did said person not have a treasured stuffed animal or a blankey that they drug everywhere, that acted like security system in a strange place , or that took away bad dreams , or saw them through rough times? Confession Poggles and Angel were my treasured stuffed animals, Poggles dry rotted and had to be sent to the trash heap. Angel though is still here after 32 years she is faded, had major repairs and is threadbare but still here. So I again reiterate with all my heart I hope Mr. Rabbit is found and yes I would cry if I , at three years old , lost Angel or Poggles and yes my parents would have looked for them . So please spread the word about Mr. Rabbit . That is all , good day or evening.

Not sure I want my dog to meet a police officer
What a strange title for a post right well I read a disturbing statistic that says every 96 minutes a dog is shot by a law enforcement officer, while some of these dogs are aggressive, most are not there is a documentary running right now called Puppycide. It is about law enforcement's problem with shooting dogs some who are shot are on leashes, running away, down on the ground being submissive, others are shot in the back. One is shot several times in it's owner's house. I couldn't finish the video . The film makers offer suggestions on how to better educate law enforcement and I hope that some law enforcement saw the video and will try some of the ideas. I am sorry that I couldn't finish the film.
On a happier note today three dogs are back home next door because of my husband , dad and me . I am happy about that. I also want to say that I am praying for the victims of the tsunami and that everyone will be reunited with their loved ones. I am also praying for the families and friends of the four U.S. Marines that were killed in a accident at Camp Pendleton.
My schnoodle Maisy got groomed today and she looks adorable. I really wish that all dogs could have a good home and those that are lost will find their way home, but I know that is not always possible and some lost dogs aren't lost they are abandoned and that is tragic; especially when you have watched the dog try to catch it's owner. Yes I know I am repeating things for previous posts but really they need repeating and will keep being repeated until I stop seeing this happening. I guess I could get the license plates of these asses but then the dog would get away. I guess I am just tired and need to face the reality that I can't save all the dogs and I will never be able to understand the type of person that does these things.
Have you ever wondered what would happen to these people that do horrible things to animals if they had to endure what the animal did? I do and it scares me that sometimes I wish that they would. I know that is horrible to say but if someone was to do these things maybe all the animal abusers and losers would just disappear.
I guess it is a good thing that I am not in politics either because some of the stuff going on or shall I say not going on bugs me , let's be honest if we ( as private citizens/ businesses) didn't have a budget for the year we would be in trouble. I have signed petitions saying that if the politicians aren't working on a budget then they shouldn't get their paychecks. This also applies to the other things they should be doing. Really if you all can not agree on a budget, bill, or plan then maybe you never were taught to compromise and your personal relationships must really be sad.
Okay I think I am done ranting so good night/ morning.
Remember a pet( dog, cat, lizard, pocket pet, bird, snake) is a lifetime commitment ( theirs) and that means choose carefully and love unconditionally and have a backup plan in case they outlive you .

What is with humanity today???
What is with humanity today, more specifically the people who think it is alright to walk into a public space and start shooting people/ places? I mean really what did those nameless people ever do to you? I mean in the matter of mere days LAX shooting three people shot, two killed, gunman okay in custody, and several people miss flights and are scared. The mall shooting in New Jersey okay the guy didn't hurt anyone but scared hundreds and ended up taking his own life. A scary man with gun, sword, and body armor is seen walking around CCSU nothing came of that either other then a campus was on lock down and students and faculty were told to stay indoors, the gentleman that caused this problem said it was just a misunderstanding. Now I know that people do these kind of things because they are upset at the government (LAX shooter), Mentally unstable ( perhaps the New Jersey mall) and finally who knows ( CCSU) . In all honesty perhaps shooting used to happen this frequently in the past and we just didn't have access to the information so quickly or maybe this is a part of a growing trend where people think it is acceptable to scare/ hurt someone else. I don't know about you but it scares me. There are people who say that we need more gun control, I am not sure that is going to help. Well some people also say this would not happen if everyone had a gun. In my opinion I don't think that is the answer either . Perhaps the answer is this in order to get a gun you must do the following: Prove that you are mentally stable, clear a criminal background check, attend a mandatory class on how to handle guns, safety , maintenance, have a secure place to keep it, and finally perhaps just perhaps if your child, friend, or acquaintance uses your gun in commission of a crime you are held responsible for it meaning that you lent it to them and they walk in a blow people away with it or rob someone.. I am not saying that you go away forever I mean to say you face a lesser charge.( Let's face it if I walked over to my friend's house and asked if I could borrow their gun they would look at me like I was nuts, and then ask me why I want to use it. That right there would make me question why do I want to use their gun ?) I know that is unfair right? Well tell that to the children in Sandyhook, Columbine, the victims Aurora Theater massacre all of whom were going to school or sitting down to watch a movie. I don't know the answers I know that guns by themselves do not kill people. For those of you who don't know me very well I don't think guns are evil people are evil... I don't have a gun myself but am perfectly fine with you having a gun as long as you know how and when to use it.
I realize that the police cannot always keep everyone safe. I realize that some have a gun to defend themselves, hunt and /or protect their loved ones and property , but do you need a Ouzi for that or a fully automatic rifle( sorry if I got the gun types wrong.) ? In summery guns don't kill people, people kill people using guns. I know nice right this is a animal rights blog but you know what some people killed in the aforementioned tragedies I am sure some of them must of had a animal that misses/ missed them. So yes it is about animals the human animal that we all are. Remember that animal in your house is a lifetime commitment.

Random thoughts and rantings.
So it is finally the holiday season, which for me begins on Halloween with me handing out candy to all the ghouls and goblins that come to the door. Maisy my mini schnoodle usually provides security from her little ottoman. This year though something wonderful happened she stood by the door in her little pirate costume ( dress with trick arrgh treats printed on it) and matching blue striped socks ( she thinks she needs to chew her feet) and helped supervise the giving of the candy. Anyway, my husband did finally catch the little lizards ( Fence Lizard) on porch on film so here they are:
Yes I know they are the same lizard but the other was too shy to pose for the camera...
I am happy to report that the killer and abuser of Puppy Doe was caught and is being held on 500,000 dollars bail. So he will have a long time to sit and think about what he did to her.
Also, to show that I care for humans too I am quite happy that the LAX shooter is currently recovering from his wounds and will stand trial for what he has done.
The FDA is currently writing up guidelines to make pet food safer.
In the O.C. Register yesterday there was a story about the city counsels of 17 cities considering making a registry of all the aggressive dogs in the cities available online while this sounds like a good idea at face value; Let's look at what is considered a aggressive dog : a dog that has tried to attack another person or animal unprovoked and/ or a dog that has successfully attack/ maimed / killed another person or animal. Okay that is well and good but let's consider shall we that most people cannot read the signs that a dog gives before a attack i.e . ears pinned to back of head, body rigid , tail straight or wagging to the left, the old growl , the showing of teeth all of which dogs do when threatened . Okay what makes this so bad is that they will give out the address and a picture of said aggressive dog. Now I don't know about you but people with aggressive dogs tend to let their dogs out without a leash and when said dog attacks another individual they tend to lie about the dog being theirs or where the dog lives. This will only lead to more dogs being brought to the animal shelter or worse being dumped on the street. Not to mention there are some really sick humans out there that will use this list to act out their ultimate revenge ( poison hamburger anyone, nails in chunk of meat, and the good old standby bullet to head of dog that remotely looks like dog) I wonder if these lawmakers have thought this through I mean seriously do you really think that someone that has taught their canine to be aggressive is going to tell you the truth of where they live?
I can see it now , hypothetically aggressive dog comes onto your property and rips apart little Fifi now you see Bruiser( aggressive dog) but you are so busy trying to save your little Fifi that you don't call animal control right away you rush little Fifi to vets. Now do really know where Bruiser came from Bruiser in all likelihood wasn't wearing a collar and probably isn't a licensed dog. Lets say you do know where Bruiser lives you call animal control on him and they go to the door only to find the people denying that Bruiser lives there, no Bruiser in the yard or house so animal control leaves and tells you there is nothing they can do.
Okay, try this scenario on for size you happen to own a Rhodesian Ridge-back (Melvin) and a small child is over at your house playing with your child and bugging the dog now Melvin takes a nip because after all the child was hurting him( pulling on ears, yanking on tail and hit him all while your back was turned. ) So you call the child's parents and take the child to the E.R. and it's not a hand killing bite. Okay so Melvin is guilty of attacking a child but not unprovoked. Now what you don't know is there is a lil beagle called Buddy that lives with the hand muncher. Now here is what happens to get at Melvin the child's mother decides to throw over the backyard wall some tainted meat. Now what this child mom doesn't know is you have submitted Melvin for the required 10 day quarantine to Animal Control. So the only lovely dog to receive the yummy treat is Buddy (Beagle) . You catch Buddy in time to get the poisoned meat away and take Buddy to vet. Long story short Melvin was found guilty and ultimately euthanized. Buddy by the way lost his best friend and is fine other then that. Yes this happened to someone I knew, no the names of the dogs are not the real names of the dogs. To let you know the child admitted later to provoking Melvin, but not in time to save Melvin. So perhaps the lawmakers should rethink this lovely idea. My solution to this problem is make the people responsible for their animals. By the way the current punishment for a aggressive dog owner is a 666.00 dollar fine and 660.00 dollar a year permit which must be paid for three years and at the end of the three years if the dog hasn't attacked another person/ animal then they are no longer labeled aggressive. Now some dogs never get that chance Melvin didn't . Just thought you should know.
By the way did you know that 80% of people cannot tell the difference between a
Pit Bull terrier:

American Staffordshire Terrier:

Can you tell the difference?
YES I can tell the difference and YES I know that these two dogs have a bad reputation but I also know that both can be used as service dogs , therapy dogs, and make good companion animals if brought up the right way. Did you know that only four of Micheal Vick's pit-bulls had to be put down because they couldn't be saved( retrained, truly too aggressive) and that three are currently therapy dogs across the U.S. Just thought you would like to know something good can come of these " killer Dogs."
Elle is a registered /licensed therapy dog:

So next time someone tells you that these dogs should all be banned and allowed to die out as a breed tell them about Elle and Kobe the wonder pit-bull.
That is all for the day remember to adopt and choose wisely because a pet is a lifetime commitment.

There be dragons here or at least lizards
Well hello again two posts in one night aren't we lucky. I forgot to mention in my previous post that there be dragons here or lizards really at least three of them and we think a mom lizard too. We noticed them in August these tiny lizards which is great because we had a outdoor ant problem that we had been using pesticide to control , but since these little guys or girls have hatched we just let them handle it. They are now bigger and have moved onto bigger bugs but they still live in the flower beds and sun themselves on the porch. They seem to be doing well and hopefully someone will be able to get a picture soon they are just to skittish to get one and I walk like a T-Rex so they know when I am coming. Also we have lots of hummingbirds who like to visit our hibiscus plant and the crows enjoy playing on the lawn. We have a couple of black phoebes who hang out in the tree out front. So all in all I guess our yard is a variable wonderland for little critters. The backyard has a gopher in it and I keep hoping he will just go away without any human help but I don't know if he will. My husband and I sprayed down a paper wasp nest a couple weeks ago not because they were being overly aggressive or anyone got stung but because they were outside the window and we didn't want anyone or the dog to get stung so 60 wasps lost their lives. So anyway I guess that is all I have to type so good night.

Sorry about the long hiatus...
Sorry about the long hiatus but what can I say you can only write so much on the evils of the world before it gets to be too much... I am back now. So how is everyone doing out there? Well I see we all made it through the government shut down. Maisy my mini schnoodle will be 10 this November. She is currently e collar free because she has stopped chewing on herself which I think is caused by her dry skin or allergies. I have a problem I am currently upset about the grey wolves being delisted because every time this happens to a predator everyone goes buck wild with the hunting thing. I am not saying that people can not control themselves but really... There is a lady who came to the door the other day asking if I had seen a blonde lady with a Yorkshire Terrier? I haven't seen the Yorkshire terrier or a blonde lady. Apparently the blonde lady found the Yorkie and won't give it back ; the police were called by the rightful dog owner and the blonde lady told the rightful owner that she would return the dog but that never happened. So now the lady is afraid the dog has been hurt or let loose. I have her phone number in my phone. I feel sad that stuff like the above happens. So please if you see a Yorkie or any other dog/ cat loose running about your neighborhood or place of employment pick it up and keep it safe; please oh please make found posters and take said doggie/ cat to a veterinarian and get it checked for a microchip or a tattoo, and if you must because of circumstances at least take it to a shelter. Those that have animals please make sure that your yards are secure and your animals have identification on them. Remember to take pictures of you and your animals frequently so that if you lose them and have to prove that they are your animal you can. That is all from here... Have a nice evening/ morning.
